Curious as what the next evolution in keyboard technology will be? Well, while we can't say we actually went on a trip into the future to come back and tell you how things will be, what I can show you is how the future (or at least a version of it) looks through the eyes of Microsoft. It seems the company is preparing to introduce (and by that I literally mean show it off, then go home with it) a new pressure-sensitive keyboard that may change the way we type forever.
What the new pressure sensitive keyboard from the software giant does is allow what it calls more efficient typing.
Fonts could be changed according to how hard you press a key and typos could even be avoided with the help of a system that determines intent by judging the pressure applied simultaneously on pressed keys. The device will be presented at the User Interface Software and Technology conference that will take place in Canada this October.
Students will then be given a keyboard and will have to compete with each other in finding different applications for this technology. Applications that will make it a lot more useful and will allow Microsoft to sell them in order to make a huge bundle of cash from it. The best ideas will be prized with 2,000 USD in cash and a special consideration will be awarded as well.
While this idea is basically good, let us not forget that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. And, in this case, I am referring to those particular types of persons that slam their keyboards good, you know? Will they be writing with CAPS all the time or will a system be made for them as well? And how about gaming? Sure, some awesome macros could be designed so as to work perfectly with some games but I know of only one way to keep WASD pressed.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
