Can you believe that we can now purchase spy equipment from our local electronics store? It's interesting to see just how the evolution of technology brings movie concepts closer to real life. 10 years ago, you would have never thought that, someday, you might be able to purchase your own personal spy belt, and yet, here it is.
Coming directly from Minox, a developers of binoculars and other optical devices, the Agent M Digital Belt Camera is something an amateur spy should always have on him. The device features a belt buckle-integrated camera that can record videos in 3GP format with a 176x144 pixels resolution. The recorded video is stored on a microSD card. The camera only supports storage capacities of up to 2GB and can record continuously until the storage device is full. In order to control its functions, users can easily access the tiny bottom controls. Shame for the 15fps though.
Imagine business men using this kind of solution in order to obtain blackmail material on each other (yes, the device also records audio). I don't know how many people will use such a device, especially considering the $300 price tag, but I'm sure that if it is successful, it will only fool those who have no idea what today's technology is capable of. Someone who is seriously concerned with security should always read about new technologies and developments and try to understand how a certain breakthrough can be used to build new and more efficient spy devices.
It would be interesting though to see how large the field of view is on such a camera. The thing is that, if you are placing the camera half way up your body, then, in order to record people and objects around you, you will need to maintain a considerable distance between yourself and the recorded target, otherwise the subject won't fit the frame.
