While Mio has not released any new PND at this year's IFA show in Berlin, the company did come up with a pretty interesting surprise for iPhone and iPod touch users in the form of the Mio GPS Car Kit, which allows the users of the aforementioned Apple products to navigate from A to B in a safer manner and benefit from the advantages of the car kit, such as the powerful built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth hands-free calling and the playback of spoken instructions and music via the speakers of the car stereo.

The system is very simple, since all the user has to do is just place the iPhone or iPod touch in the car kit in which an external GPS receiver has been integrated for enhanced, powerful satellite reception.

When you wish to use your car kit as a hands-free speakerphone as well, you can connect via Bluetooth, which is automatically set to discovery mode and ready for pairing when powered on the first time.

The iPhone is ready for use as a hands-free device as soon as they are connected and the Mio GPS Car Kit subsequently charges the iPhone or iPod touch, and provides clear route instructions and clear telephone conversations (iPhone) via the integrated speaker while driving.

The device is also equipped with an audio line out, allowing it to be connected to the car stereo, enabling users to listen to route instructions, telephone conversations and music stored on the iPod touch or iPhone via the car's own speakers.

The car kit from Mio can be easily attached to the windscreen with a suction mount and can also be used with most navigation software, can be viewed in portrait or landscape mode and is compatible with all Bluetooth devices.

The car kit is powered by the included 12v-connection that can be plugged in the car and will be available in September at a recommended retail price of 99,99 EURO.
