It is always nice to see health monitoring technology introduced in regular
consumer devices, which are both very easy to use and quite helpful. You don't have to be a hypochondriac to worry about your weight or other general health issues, like the quality of your sleep. Especially if you are constantly on a sleep-deprived schedule. This is, of course, all fun and games at young ages, but from a certain age above, you might want to do regular check-ups and see if those hectic years of college are starting to leave their mark on your overall
health.
This new gadget from Tanita, for example, will help you determine the quality of your sleep, in the simplest ways possible. Just leave the sleep scan mat under your mattress during your sleep time and it will record data by itself, from various factors, which it then later stores onto a microSD card. After this, you can use a dedicated software to read what Tanita's mat has discovered.
It works with pressure sensors, which
monitor your respiratory rate during sleep, your general movement, whether you have often changed sides etc., and it also measures your heart's pulse rate. With the SD card containing this data, you can use the integrated software to analyze the deepness and quality levels of your sleep, or you can also take it to your doctor’s and let them better understand whether you have any sleeping disorders at all.
The software also gives you a sleep score that you can compare with ideal parameters, I guess. No word on an American or European release from Tanita Japan, although the company also activates on American soil. The price for their sensor-based mat is of 36,750 yen, or $392.
