Curious to know more about
Motorola's latest mobile device? Well I am too and seeing how 'hello Moto' made the mistake of publishing their Droid website a bit earlier than they should have, we now have quite a few pieces of information to bring to you. Like you've probably already realized, Motorola's next phone will be called the Droid and will be using (of course) the Android 2.0 operating system. Motorola has since realized the mistake that has been done and took the site off the grid but not before we saw the information we'll be sharing with you shortly!
It seems the Motorola Droid will feature a 550MHz processor (Cortex A8, yay!) as well as a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and a 4x zoom. There is a pre-installed 16GB microSD card, GPS, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g WiFi as well as a micro USB port. The device also features a slide-out full
QWERTY keyboard, which is always a nice addition to any mobile device. Now, I've seen quite a few comments regarding people falsely claiming the device's processor to be a lot weaker than the iPhone 3GS, for example.
Just so you know, the iPhone 3GS uses more or less the same Cortex A8 design except it includes a Power VR SGX 535 graphical processing unit and has a speed of 600MHz. The Motorola Droid seems to feature the same design except that they went for OMAP 3430 instead of going 'custom' like Apple did. While I do not know what the 50MHz difference would be, you can take my word for it that it won't be far behind the iPhone.
I've also seen people mentioning there aren't as many games and applications on Android. While it is true there aren't as many as you can find in the Apple App store, the benefits of Android are that not only you can make apps for yourself but there is also a growing community of modders. As far as pricing and release dates go, there was nothing being mentioned on the page.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
