Over the past couple of years, the Internet has managed to become the world's most important media content delivery vehicle, pretty much everything (from books to TV shows to games) being available online, in some form or another. Moreover, it seems that this trend is far from having reached its full potential, and for this reason, Myka is now making available its download and streaming media device (also named Myka), a set-top box that might actually change your TV watching habits forever.

What's so interesting about this player is the fact that it allows users to play pretty much every type of multimedia content available on the Internet, whether we're talking about audio or video files. Hence, this thing will have no problems blazing through MPEG1/2/4 Elementary (M1V, M2V, M4V), MPEG1/2 PS (M2P, MPG), MPEG2 Transport Stream (TS, TP, TRP, M2T, M2TS, MTS), VOB, AVI, ASF, WMV, Matroska (MKV), MOV (H.264), MP4, RMP4 audio files, encoded using pretty much every codec out there and featuring resolutions of up to 1080p (Full HD). The same goes for audio, the Myka streaming device working very well with AAC, M4A, MPEG audio (MP1, MP2, MP3, MPA), WAV, WMA, FLAC and OGG files.

Another important issue worth mentioning about this thing is the ease of use. Hence, all the users have to do in order to start enjoying their favorite content is simply connect the device to the Internet, plug it into the TV (via one of the available HDMI, Composite and S-Video ports) and Myka will self-configure. Plus, since the BitTorrent protocol is built right in, video torrents can be downloaded directly from the Web or transferred from one's computer in a very fast and easy manner.

Hardware-wise, the Myka device is actually pretty simple, since we're talking about just a 450 DMIPS SOC (system on a chip) architecture, accompanied by 16 MB of Flash memory and 256 MB DDRAM. Similar to other products of this type available on the market, the device runs a Linux-based operating system.

According to Myka, the first units of this streaming video player are scheduled to be delivered starting with April the 6. As far as the pricing is concerned, it's worth mentioning that the price tags depend directly on the amount of storage space provided by the player, ranging between 300 US dollars for the 80GB version and 460 US dollars for the 500GB model.
