As some of you might remember, earlier this year, we got to spend a few hours testing
NVIDIA's 3D Vision technology and came out very impressed at the “other end” of the testing period, since the respective solution was the closest possible thing to a full 3D experience in the comfort of one's home. Moreover, a couple of weeks ago, we even said a few things about Asus' plans to launch a couple of
3D notebooks onto the market, both powered by a mobile version of 3D Vision.
And now, it seems that the GPU manufacturer has finally decided to let the proverbial cat out of the bag and officially announced the expansion of
NVIDIA 3D Vision technology to those high-definition notebook platforms that integrate advanced 120Hz 3D Vision-capable displays directly into the chassis, practically laying the foundation for enjoying an immersive 3D experience while being on the go.
Notebooks will include the 120Hz 3D Vision-capable panel and bundle 3D Vision active-shutter glasses. ASUS is readying the first ever NVIDIA 3D Vision notebook - the ASUS G51J 3D (which we've talked about before) for worldwide release in early December, which will probably turn it into one of the hottest purchases this Christmas.
Of course, such a major announcement made a lot of people comment, whether we're talking about Asus and NVIDIA reps or some of the two companies' partners. For example, PC Wang, Corporate Vice President & General Manager, Notebook Business Unit, System Business Group at ASUS, said that “We are extremely excited about bringing the first NVIDIA 3D Vision notebook to market. NVIDIA and ASUS have a passion for gaming and cutting-edge technology, and this is another example of how great companies working together can deliver awesome new platforms to our combined customers.”
“LG Display is planning to fully support NVIDIA
3D Vision technology with our next generation of 120Hz notebook panels,” said David Choi, Vice President, LG Display, while SH Moon, Vice President, Samsung Electronics, also stated that “NVIDIA’s 3D Vision technology provides the best 3D experience that we have seen, and we look forward to bringing this technology to market on notebook panels.”
All in all, this is an extremely interesting move, albeit more or less predictable, on the long term. And since Pandora's box has now officially been open, we're likely to see 3D Vision arrive on a very wide array of portable systems over the course of 2010, coming from the most important manufacturers around.
