NVIDIAs' various graphics solutions have proved their worth for parallel computing time and time again, their enormous power suiting a variety of tasks a lot better than traditional CPUs. However, we're not talking here just about scientific endeavors, but also about something a little different, such as...password breaking.

So, ElcomSoft, a Russian company specialized in password recovery applications, has just revealed the fact that, by using NVIDIA's newest high-end video accelerators for its password recovery tools, they've managed to achieve benchmark speeds demonstrating 20-fold gain in recovery speed compared to Intel current top of the line quad-core CPUs.

Furthermore, the new Fermi-based video boards exceed benchmark speeds of previous-generation NVIDIA Tesla by doubling the already impressive password recovery speed of enterprise-grade Tesla solutions based on the previous-generation chipsets. For this reason, ElcomSoft is anticipating the release of Fermi-based Tesla to further accelerate password recovery in enterprise environments.

Distributed Password Recovery, the software developed by ElcomSoft, enables hardware-accelerated password recovery for a variety of applications, including Microsoft Office documents, Adobe PDF, PGP, personal security certificates and exchange keys, MD5 hashes, Oracle passwords, Windows and UNIX login and domain password.

Well, really hate to say this, but it really seems that crackers and hackers might have just found themselves some new toys....
