I tend to travel a lot. And I mean a lot! And one of the issues that I had trouble with (when traveling abroad) is the fact that my mobile phone wasn't exactly... fit for international traveling. I bought a smartphone a few days ago and the problem was solved. However, for those of you that just want to be able to place a call and don't want a phone that costs an arm and a leg, National Geographic has the perfect solution.
I know you must be thinking I am crazy, since National Geographic is not exactly in the phone business. Well, up until now it wasn't. The new National Geographic Duet Travel Phone (possible due to cooperation between National Geographic and Cellular Abroad) is a two-SIM-card handheld that makes it easy for people that have to travel a lot to keep their regular SIM and another international one for, well, international use.
But let us hear what Sebastian Harrison, president of Cellular Abroad Inc., had to say about the feat, “Our service offers comparable international coverage to carriers such as Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T, but at a fraction of the cost. In today’s economic environment, there is good reason to utilize National Geographic’s international cellular service when traveling. [...] The unique features of the new Duet handset perfectly complement the equally unique qualities of the service.”
As for features, this phone has a 1GB storage card, FM radio, a camera and Bluetooth. Not much is being said about its specifications. It comes with a prepaid (National Geographic Travel SIM Card) service so you don't need a contract and is said to have pretty low outgoing rates. It is priced around 180 USD.
Honestly, I am pretty sure you could buy a better one for that same amount. National Geographic should perhaps stick to cool shows and leave the handheld world.
