While the launches of new GPS navigators are fewer and farther between than in previous years (on account of a decreasing auto market and the fact that consumers are less willing to change their
navigators as often as they did a couple of months or years ago), that doesn't mean they're completely gone. No, from time to time, we can still see such products arrive onto the market, one of the latest pertaining to Navigon and being dubbed 8410.
According to Navigon, this new PND can be included in the company's “premium” line of
GPS navigators, one of the first reasons for this classification being the very elegant external casing, which features both a sleek and attractive look, but also top-notch materials, including a brushed steel frame.
The new personal navigation device sports a 5-inch display, which provides enough space for one to easily view the navigation maps, but also for viewing television programs. And if you're wondering what's a GPS navigator got to do with television, the answer is quite simple: Navigon is also offering an additional DVB-T receiver for this package, which would allow users to turn their
PND into a portable TV set.
Other interesting additions to this PND consist of a TMC receiver, which can be used for enjoying information regarding the incoming traffic, as well as a voice command system, which makes it much easier for drivers to access some of the navigator's functions and features.
Given the fact that we're talking about a premium product, it's no wonder that the price tag is also quite high, the NAVIGON 8410 retailing for around 449 Euro (or 636 US dollars). However, users who want to benefit from the added DVB-T capabilities will have to cough up an extra 60 US dollars for this thing, which makes the overall ownership cost a bit too high, according to most standards (especially nowadays).
