Don't know how many of you have actually laid your eyes on a transparent OLED display until now, but I bet most of you have only seen them in movies and other animation-based shows on Discovery Channel. The technology exists, however, but it is very exclusive so far, seen only at special events, like FilmTech, where
Akihabaranews got to snap this T-OLED from NeoView KOLON.
Sure, the name of the producer is not the most inspired one, but look at their technology. The transparent OLED tech is one of the most popular seen in SF movies and it always awes us when we lay our eyes on it. Though it is not yet capable of a copy-paste maneuver, like we could see in Avatar, the T-OLED presented by NeoView KOLON at FilmTech is a display built with the automotive industry in mind.
In a Jetsons-like future, we could see cars that use this
tech in order to give drivers specific information directly onto their windshield.
Unlike the similar
windshield solution we could see here from GM, which used lasers and sensor cams to point out road signs or other objects outside the road, this is a more direct approach, using the popular OLED display as a background for information that drivers usually see on their dashboards. The transparent heads-up display in a car is yet another popular gadget seen in Sci Fi movies and this will not change for a while, because the technology is rather expensive for the moment.
As you can see in the picture, this display is quite small and it was presented at FilmTech just for show. A test to see it work was done, but that is about all. There is no word about making it available anytime soon, or about any car companies interested in adopting NeoView KOLON's technology.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
