Today has been a pretty busy day for Canon, whic, apparently, is trying to catch up with all of the announcements made by its competitors, namely Samsung, FujiFilm and Sony (until now) in the field of digital photography. So, the company has released quite a large number of new products today, two of the most important being the PowerShot SX1 IS and SX200 IS Digital Cameras, which have been designed for those amateur photographers looking for a little something extra from their devices.
The first model, the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS digital camera, is a 10.0-megapixel model, built around a CMOS image sensor, accompanied by a 20x wide-angle Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 28-560 mm) with Optical Image Stabilization and a 2.8-inch vari-angle wide-format LCD for great on-camera viewing and editing. Besides being able to take very good quality photos, the camera can also record 1080p Full HD movie clips, which can be later viewed on one's HDTV, since the SX1 also packs an HDMI connector.
Additionally, the new Canon camera delivers a full range of shooting and recording modes, including RAW + JPEG for enhanced creative control. Similar to all of the fresh cameras from Canon, the SX1 delivers a wide range of image improvement options, plus the DIGIC 4 Image Processor.
The PowerShot SX200 IS is a slightly stripped-down version of the SX1, featuring 12x Optical Zoom lens and wide-angle lens (28-336 mm equivalent), and Optical Image Stabilization. It also provides HD recording (but just 720p resolution), as well as a 3-inch LCD display. Moreover, in order to match the customers' various tastes, the SX200 is available in three different colors – black, blue and red.
Both of these advanced new cameras from Canon will arrive in spring 2009, the PowerShot SX1 IS being scheduled for an April launch for a $599.99 price point, while the SX200 IS should be in stores by the end of March, at a $350 price tag.
