While most people prefer to listen to the music stored onto their mobile phones in the privacy provided by the headphones supplied with the handset, others like to share their musical experience with everyone around them. And especially for this second category of users, Japanese company I-O Data has just released a new Bluetooth speaker, which is certified to work with Apple's fresh iPhone 3GS handset, among other things.
The speaker, called “CPSPK/BT,” has a fairly compact form factor, measuring 123mm x 38.5mm x 36.8mm, at an overall weight of somewhere in the vicinity of 130 grams. The manufacturer claims that the device also has a “stylish” design, but I do believe that's up to the users to decide, because, let's face it, this is not exactly the most attractive speaker system ever.
Anyhow, leaving the design considerations aside, it's important to mention the fact that the portable speaker is compliant with the Bluetooth versions 2.1+EDR specification and sports an estimated functioning range of around 10 meters. Plus, it supports several Bluetooth profiles, including here A2DP 1.2 (SBC and SCMS-T), AVRCP 1.0, HFP 1.5 and HSP 1.1.
Since we're on the subject of Bluetooth, it's also important to point out the fact that this thing can be easily used for receiving calls, the music levels going down in order to let you answer. Sadly, no microphone is included in its configuration.
I-O Data's “CPSPK/BT” Bluetooth speaker is powered by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery, which can be charged either via USB or from an AC adapter supplied in the package. The estimated functioning time is of around 10 hours, following a full charge of around 180 minutes.
Unfortunately, the Japanese company doesn't provide any significant pricing information; apparently, we'll get to find that out towards the end of July, when these things hit the shelves in Japan.
