If you're a serious audiophile, then you'll most likely want to enjoy great quality sound wherever you might be, either at home or while on the road, driving your car. And in order to cater exactly for this second situation, Infinity Systems (a division of Harman International) has just rolled out a new series of subwoofers, the Reference Series, which can deliver deep, thumping bass to pretty much any vehicle they're installed within.

According to the manufacturer, each Infinity Reference subwoofer features a progressive spider, which applies an increasing amount of force as the cone’s travel approaches its limit; this gives the subwoofer greater durability. Additionally, the large-roll surrounds give the cone edge optimal suspension, which eliminates any rattling traveling up the edge. And the polypropylene woofer-cone material is lightweight, yet stiff, providing an excellent balance between efficiency and power handling.

“As car-audio subwoofers are pushed to provide ever-increasing performance, Infinity Systems incorporates vigorous testing to ensure a long-lasting and reliable product,” declared Christopher M. Dragon, director of customer marketing for Harman Consumer. “The Reference subwoofers deliver serious low bass with incredible detail and clarity, benefiting in no small part from Infinity Systems’ heritage of providing quality audio.”

Now, let's see exactly what each of these products has to offer, in terms of audio features and pricing. The first model in the line is the 860w, an 8-inch (200mm) subwoofer that offers 91dB sensitivity, 250 watts RMS continuous output and a 1000 watts Peak power.

Next comes the 10-inch (250mm) 1060w, which has the same level of sensitivity but supports 275 Watts RMS and 1100 Watts max power, followed by the 1062w (also 10-inch diameter) dual-voice-coil model, which shares the same audio power, but bumps up the sensitivity level to 94dB.

Finally, the last two models are the 12-inch (300mm) 1260w and dual-voice-coil 1262w, which offer 300 watts RMS and 1200 watts peak power ratings, with the only major difference being the level of sensitivity (93 dB vs. 96 dB in the case of the 1262w).

Pricing of the new Infinity Systems Reference Series subwoofers ranges between 100 and 130 US dollars, all of the new models scheduled to be available starting with May 2009.
