iBiquity Digital Corporation, one developer of digital HD Radio Technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting, recently announced the expanded availability of factory-installed HD Radio Technology across the 2010 Mercedes-Benz automobiles,
providing customers with this superior in-vehicle digital upgrade, including the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, E-,CL-,CLS-, S- and SLK-Class vehicles.
"We commend Mercedes-Benz USA for extending the availability of its premium feature packages to more of its newest automobiles, continuing to be a true innovator in providing excellence in design and performance," said Jeff Jury, Chief Operating Officer of iBiquity Digital. "Mercedez-Benz drivers expect leading technologies, and the superior sound quality and clarity delivered by HD Radio entertainment will serve to enhance their experience."
By August 2008, Mercedes-Benz firstly announced its commitment to offering HD Radio Technology as a factory installed feature on several of the 2009 model-year vehicles, including the M-, R-, GL-, G-Class SUVs and E-Class vehicles. Not only extending, but doubling its HD radio technology offering, Mercedes has just unveiled the expansion beyond the originally announced five models.
As for now, there are already five of the newest Mercedes-Benz models that offer HD Radio Technology as part of a premium features package, as well as five more upcoming models that will
get HD Radio Technology among the standard equipment. The HD Radio platform will enable radio broadcasters to program new channels with content that can be listened to in crystal clear digital sound. There are already more than 2,000 stations across the country, with more than 1,000HD2/HD3 multicast channels in the US.
With this settled, we can but hope that other car manufacturers will take on the trend and feature HD radio as a standard. If that is somewhat possible, then the chances that many will upgrade the bulk sound system on the cars to one that will take on HD sound are the smallest.
