In order to stand a chance on today's very tough market, the manufacturers of various consumer electronics are forced to come up with all sorts of innovative solutions, whether we're talking about clever marketing strategies or actual technical innovations. And this is exactly the path adopted by LiveView GPS, which, to stand a chance against the big players from the PND segment, has equipped its latest product, the NavTrac RTV10, with a very interesting and quite useful 2-way messaging solution.
There are several things worth mentioning about this GPS device, but one of the most important is the fact that what we're dealing with here is a dual-use product, namely a PND that doubles as a GPS tracking device, the gadget being able to report back every 10 seconds. Moreover, as mentioned above, the built-in 2-way messaging system allows users to guide the drivers in a much faster manner towards their destination.
Now that we've seen some of the most important features the PND can provide, it's time to go beneath its external case and take a quick look at what really makes it “tick,” namely its hardware configuration. Hence, we're talking about a SIRF Atlas-III, Dual Core CPU/GPS receiver, accompanied by 4GB of Flash memory for storage and 64MB of DRAM memory, which are quite enough for running the embedded Microsoft Windows CE .Net 5.0 Core Version operating system and the navigation software running on top of it.
Additionally, the device packs a 4.3-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display, with a 480x272 pixel resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Obviously, the navigation device from LiveView GPS comes equipped with its own set of speakers and is powered by a rechargeable Li-Polymer 1400 mAh battery.
As far as the pricing issue is concerned, the NavTrac RTV10 from LiveView GPS is, indeed, pretty expensive, as it retails for around 500 US dollars, users being forced to cough up an additional 40 dollars per month for unlimited messaging.
