Networked-connected surveillance cameras (also known as IP cameras) are becoming the tools of choice when setting up a security
surveillance system, simply because they enable users to monitor their property from just about anywhere they might be around the world, as long as they have access to an Internet connection, of course. And that's exactly the type of device we'll talk about as follows, namely the Y-cam Bullet camera developed by an UK-based firm called Y-cam Solutions.
The Bullet is a weatherproof network camera that features a number of professional grade features which make this device ideal for domestic, industrial or business applications. A two-way audio feature allows users to remotely talk to anyone at the camera’s site, as well as being able to listen in to what’s going on through the camera’s built-in microphone. The device also comes with Power over Ethernet, allowing users to transmit data and power over a single cable, and a Digital I/O for systems integration.
Additional
features include infrared night vision which uses 12 infrared LEDs to provide high levels of “invisible” light in dark environments, and an Infrared Cut Filter to produce true day and night images. Infrared light is filtered during the day and during night time operation the filter is removed to allow the camera to make full use of its night vision capabilities. Producing video up to a maximum frame rate of 30fps displayed at up to 640×480 resolution, the Y-cam Bullet ensures clear and smooth images.
The high-performance Y-cam Bullet also allows users to record directly to a microSD card on the device, allowing for on-camera recording and access to past footage through the web interface, so one can review old footage from anywhere. Other features include motion detection, email and FTP alerts, live streaming to mobile phones, secure encrypted wireless connectivity and password protection which means only those authorized can access the camera.
Y-cam also offers free NVR Software for PC called MultiLive, allowing users to view up to 36 cameras, as well as MultiLive for
iPhone and Android, which are free apps for simple viewing of your camera on the devices. Y-cam Bullet is compatible with both PC and Apple Mac computers across multiple web browsers and is available for a recommended retail price of 295 pounds sterling (roughly 470 US dollars).
