If you were ever in need of more storage capacity then you know there are only a few things you can do these days. It's true that the number of possibilities increases over time (right now there are multiple online services providing ample storage space), but the truth is that it's gonna take a while until online solutions can compete with personal hard drives.
So, if you buy an external HDD, everything is fine and dandy. Installing it is a breathe and it doesn't take long at all. But what if, for whatever reason, you're stuck with an internal hard drive? Things might get nasty, since you'll have to open the case, see what's going on inside and do the great deed of installing the hard drive yourself.
Or, you can consider Newer Technology's alternative and have it both ways. The company has come up with a new gadget supposed to be some sort of hybrid between the above mentioned solutions. It comes in the form of of SATA docking station which can accommodate both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives.
What's interesting about this piece of technology is that it can turn an internal HDD into an external solution without the costs of a full hard drive enclosure. The device is called Voyager and it has been fitted with almost every feature you might expect from such a product. It has a Quad Interface which includes two FireWire ports (400 and 800 flavors), one USB port and an eSATA connector. With this plethora of connection solutions, there's virtually no reason to disregard this solution.
The device is hot-swap ready and allows users to switch drives a lot easier and faster than when using an external enclosure. By pressing the front eject button, the drive will safely disconnect so that there's no risk of damaging the drive. Simplicity is also at hand with Plug&Play compliance.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed.
