Apple's iPod touch is one of the world's best-known portable media players and the subject of quite a lot of controversy over the past couple of weeks, quite a lot of sources pointing out the fact that a revision of the iconic player produced by the company from Cupertino is just around the corner.
And the latest confirmation (of sorts) comes from one of the best sources of Apple-related news,
Daring Fireball's John Gruber, who seems to have an insight on the industry in general and all things
Apple in particular way above the rest of the world.
So, in a post talking about the US launch of Dell's Streak tablet, Mr. Gruber makes a very interesting statement, telling readers that if they “ wait a few weeks to buy the Touch”, they'll “get one with a Retina Display and dual cameras”.
Of course, such news is extremely interesting, but not exactly a major surprise, since we all know that the iPod touch has always been seen as the iPhone's younger brother, featuring the same basic functions but no voice communication.
In fact, as
MacRumors points out, the
leaked photos of this
next-gen iPod seem to confirm this theory, at least as far as the front-facing camera is concerned.
The question that remains to be answered here is exactly when this thing will officially arrive and whether it will support the FaceTime function or not.
And that's because if it does, and is significantly cheaper than the iPhone, then it could prove to be a pretty major hit, all things considered.
