It seems that, today, Nikon's gone for that “all-new-products-at-once” approach, since it has seriously updated its COOLPIX line of compact digital cameras designed specifically for the average-grade consumers. And among the products launched today, two of the most interesting are the S630 and S620 digital cameras, which are available in several attractive color options, besides also providing certain advanced photo-shooting features on the side.

First and foremost, it's interesting to note that both of these cameras target a fairly wide audience (at least aesthetically speaking), given the fact that they're available in no less than five and six color options, respectively. While their design is rather different (the S630 is more edgy, the S620 having a more “rounded” form factor), they both provide very good shooting features, with the S620 actually having one of the fastest start-up times on the market, of just around 0.7 seconds.

First of all, let's see what the COOLPIX S630 has to offer. Hence, we're talking about a 12-megapixel camera (CCD sensor), accompanied by a NIKKOR lens providing a 7X optical zoom. In order to help users create good quality photos even while they're moving, the device sports a four-way VR image stabilization, as well as no less than 16 different scene modes (for various environments) and sensitivity levels up to ISO 6400.

Additionally, the S630 offers a motion detection system, a Blink detection system, Distortion Control for optimum quality when shooting architecture or landscapes, plus no less than four movie modes with sound. It also features an 11fps burst mode, which can really come in handy when taking photos of a moving subject.

Now, for the S620. This particular model has a 12.2-megapixel CCD sensor, paired with a 4X zoom NIKKOR lens. It also features subject tracking, four-way VR image stabilization, blink / motion detection, plus sensitivity levels up to ISO 6400. Moreover, as mentioned above, the S620 has a very short start-up time, of just around 0.7 seconds, which means that it's always ready to start shooting.

The Nikon COOLPIX S630 and S620 retail for around 280 and 270 US dollars, respectively, which are some pretty decent prices, given the features these things provide.
