As you will certainly remember, Nintendo took pretty much the whole world by storm a while ago when it revealed its plans of releasing a brand-new, 3D-capable Nintendo DS iteration that would allow gamers to enjoy a whole new dimension of portable gaming without employing any kind of 3D glasses in order to do so. Back then, it was rumored that a possible leak to the Japanese press prompted the company to come forward a lot sooner than they might have wanted to, but it looks like they also plan to release the finite product much faster than anyone might have originally anticipated.
So, CVG, a very reputable source in the gaming community, quoting unnamed UK industry sources, revealed the fact that Nintendo is actually gearing up for an October release of the new 3DS, following its official unveiling at E3, in June 2010. Which is, in fact, quite a surprise, since pretty much everyone did expect a 2010 launch in Japan, but only an early 2011 worldwide release.
This move by Nintendo (if it proves to be real and not just a rumor, of course) is an extremely bold and interesting one, since it will have the 3DS and accompanying game titles on shelves by Christmas 2010, a period most console manufacturers are really looking forward to (after all, that's when they sell the most units). However, the 3DS will most likely go against Microsoft's new Xbox 360, accompanied by its famous next-generation spatial control system, code-name “Project Natal.”
On the other hand, rushing to launch a new Nintendo DS might also point out that Nintendo has some financial problems and is trying to come up with a brand new best-seller, which would pick up the company's sales once again (after all, the Wii ain't such a hot subject anymore).
Unfortunately, that's about all of the info we've got for the time being, and, as expected, Nintendo has refrained from making any comments on this issue.
