Watchmaking has evolved in two main directions lately. There are watchmakers who have decided to stick to tradition and develop very intricate analog watches, with mechanisms that defy the passing of time and designs that stand the test of style and there are watchmakers that set to prove to the world that original and peculiar designs are the way to go in this field right now.
Everybody must have seen at least one of Tokyoflash's wacky creations to realize what the tendency in watchmaking is, and numerous other companies have followed the same path. One of them is Nixon, who has just launched its Newton watch. Despite the name reference though, this watch doesn't seem to have anything in common to the Isaac Newton who discovered gravity.
Available in black, white, red and turquoise, the Newton watch features a Japanese quartz movement with LED light and display, complete with a custom 50-meter molded polycarbonate with hardened mineral crystal case. The band of the watch is actually one piece custom injected silicone with patented locking looper and stainless steel buckle.
Moreover, the Newton timepiece is water resistant up to 50 meters deep, so it's okay if you forget to take it off before taking a shower or a bath, but it's indicated that you don't do that while swimming, or, even worse, diving, as you may find it useless afterwards.
It may seem complicated to read at first, but the mechanism of the watch is quite simple in fact. A rotating mechanic dot is seen here replacing the now old fashioned minute and hour hands, leaving you to guess what time it is.
If you want such a cool watch on your wrist, all you have to do is fork out 100 US dollars and the deal is sealed.
