I'm really sorry to say, but as far as I'm concerned, right now, Nokia is a company without a clear vision and strategy for the future, which is not something we'd expect from the Finnish giant. I mean, for quite a long period of time, it has been in the forefront of innovation in the field of mobile phones, but over the past two years or so, that first place in the smartphone and mobile phone is starting to get ever more shaky.
And that's because Nokia has lost its role of trendsetter to the likes of
Apple, HTC and RIM, not managing to come up with certain products that would effectively counter the “new kids on the block.” Sure, they've kept pumping new handsets and services onto the market, but, let's face it, none are memorable... I mean, think about it, what's the first recent Nokia model that comes to mind? See what I mean?
And now, it would seem that the Finnish company is about to jump head-first in yet another relatively unfamiliar segment, namely that of
Internet tablets. It's not the first time they try this, but their previous offering, the N900, wasn't exactly a success. However, given that enjoyed by Apple's iPad, as well as the fact that we'll see a ton of tablets arrive on the market in 2010, Nokia's probably not about to let go of this potentially lucrative segment.
According to “
The Street,” which is quoting Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, close to the company's technology sources, it seems that Nokia might be planning the launch of a tablet-like product, built around the new MeeGo software platform it jointly develops with Intel. For the time being, there aren't any factual pieces of information about such a
product, but it appears there's a possibility of it being developed, if Nokia doesn't want to lose touch with the latest trends, which we're sure is not the case.
