If you're driving and moving, sailing and spinning and jiving and grooving (as to quote George Carlin's “A modern man”), you're definitely the proud owner of a portable storage device. Be it a USB flash drive, portable hard drive or maybe a memory card or two, you're “I'm mobile” status on your favorite messaging application means, you're the kind of person that is always on the go. Specially designed for you comes the OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro FireWire 800/400 and USB 2.0 compatible portable solid state drive.

Featuring a pretty cool design and an impact-resistant acrylic enclosure, the On-The-Go Pro is a pretty sturdy fellow thanks to the incorporated shock-isolation technology that makes sure one drop will not mean your entire life's work has been lost. No matter if you own a Mac or Windows-based machine, if your computer has FireWire or just USB 2.0, the OWC Mercury is a 100 percent compatible cross platform storage solution. Speaking about storage, the standard mechanism is 64GB in size.

It is meant to work with SATA drives and is completely compatible with Apple's Time Machine. It operates in temperatures ranging from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius (that's 32 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit), can withstand a shock of 1500G while operating and vibrations of up to 16Gs. It also comes with a bunch of included software programs such as Prosoft Engineering Data Backup 3 for Mac OS X v10.2.8 or later, NovaSor NovaBACKUP Solution for Windows, Intech SpeedTools Utilities and others.

Of course, the most important feature that this portable storage unit has is not the software, the acrylic casing, shock resistant technology or cross platform support. The most important feature is the fact that it is a Solid State Drive and that means you'll be getting up to 120 times faster speed, extremely fast boot time and less errors than you would with a normal, mechanical hard drives. Oh, and less heat and no noise either! Pricing? 279.99 USD.
