I believe many people are
expecting an update to Onkyo's x07 receivers and you're probably one of them. Have I got good news for you, my friends. The TX-SR707 and TX-NR807 are here to update the series. The technical specs follow the expectations and are provided with many features since Onkyo didn't mess that up.
The "NR" stamp heads where your mind is going; yes, the TX-NR807 sports network streaming (including Pandora, Rhapsody, DLNA and Windows 7) to the 135-watt / channel output. If networking is not a must for you, and 100 watts is more likely what you need, you can head for the TX-SR707 that will save a couple of hundreds of dollars.
Both the new models feature THX Select2, Faroudja scaling and let you select how to use the rear surround outputs, with Dolby ProLogic IIz and even Audyssey DSX processing included. Not only Onkyo's first receiver to provide network streaming but also the first to offer Audyssey DSX soundstage extension processing, along with the non-networking TX-SR707.
The TX-NR807 can be connected directly to the Internet or just a home network via the Ethernet port located on the rear panel. The on-screen display user interface gives you the possibility to directly access Pandroa, Rhapsody, Sirius Internet Radio and vTuner streaming radio services. It can also access MP3, WMA, FLAC, Lossles, Ogg Vorbis and AAc files directly on your computer or network storage device, if necessary.
Enough with the audio part, let's see what you can… see. The TX-NR807 is
brilliant for high definition video displays with Blu-ray players and other HD sources. It sports six HDMI 1.3a inputs and 1080p video upscaling of all sources via the powerful Faroudja DCDi Cinema processor chip.
The TX-SR707 is basically the same as the TX-NR807, but lacks the network streaming and is 50 watts shy per channel. The TX-NR807 has already started shipping to Onkyo fans and will sport an MSRP of $1,099, while the TX-SR707 has an MSRP of $899.
