Well, the virtual ink hasn't even dried off from my monitor after writing about
the two Onkyo home theater media players that another device from the same company has caught my prying eyes: the Onkyo DV-BD507 Blu-ray player, a Blu-ray playing device (obviously) that also supports BD Live for the viewing of interactive content.
It allows for full 1080p playback and supports Deep Color, as well as x.v. Color. All that wouldn't be possible without 1.3a HDMI, component and composite outputs or Ethernet and SD/SDHC card slots that enable BonusView extras to run should they be larger than 1GB. And if you're the kind of person that likes filming everything he or she does everywhere he or she goes to, there's AVCHD footage playback available so as to allow you to view your video files as well.
The player is capable of handling standard DVD’s and CD’s, with internal scaling of all video sources to 1080p. The device is currently available at an MSRP of 449USD. Well, at least the price is a bit... more affordable than what I have seen in the case of other Blu-ray playing devices! The price is the only thing keeping Blu-ray from replacing the CD and DVD and it seems that this will continue to be an issue for some time to come.
In case you aren't aware, the
Blu-ray is an optical disc storage medium just like your very own DVD or CD optical discs except it offers up to 25GB for a single layered disc version 50 GB per dual layered disc. The term Blu-ray refers to the blue-violet laser that is used in order to read the disc. I know, not very creative, the Sony creative department. Anyway, now, there's a new player from Onkyo as well.
