As you probably know only too well by now, the Koreans get to enjoy a lot of products the rest of the world either sees with a pretty serious delay or not at all, and this applies especially to the area of portable devices, whether we're talking about mobile phones, portable multimedia players or GPS navigators. And actually, that's exactly the type of product we'll talk about as follows, namely the UT700 presented by Korean company EASYCAR, a device that can be very easily used either within one's vehicle or out of it.
First spotted by the ever-present eyes of our colleagues over at
Aving, this GPS-enabled personal navigation device is indeed a pretty advanced product, featuring both a wide display and advanced processing and location capabilities.
One of the first things that we notice about this particular product is the display, a 7-inch LCD touchscreen that provides a 800 x 480 pixels resolution and is quite handy for running the Q-Gini mapping software. Other significant features include the SiRF Star III GPS chipset, which is accompanied by 600 Mhz CPU and quite a hefty amount of storage space, namely either 4 or 8 GB of flash memory.
The flash memory can always be extended by adding SD cards, and the device has also been fitted with an USB connector, FM transmitter and a connector for a rear-view camera, which is pretty much everything and anything one might want from such a product.
As you probably expect by now, since the UT 700 is a very advanced PND, it's no wonder that it has a pretty hefty price tag. Thus, the 4 GB version of the portable navigator will sell for roughly 400,000KRW (295 US dollars), while the 8 GB model will be only slightly more expensive, selling for around 50,000KRW ($332). This is actually a lot less than we would expect for such a product, but given the economic crisis, it's very likely that the manufacturers are keeping the price tags down in order to sell at least a few units.
