As to meet the expectations of its trusty clients and get into the recent trend with HD up, HD down, left, right and all around, Optoma Technology has come up with its first HD projector for less than $1,000. It priced it at $999 (just like all of the other HD projector manufacturers). I guess the maker was (not) very inspired when it named it (don't get me wrong, I like minimalism even in names, but it could have given it a more distinguishing name), therefore this one is called HD20.

Leaving the bad naming behind, the projector itself is really an impressive piece of a gadget, especially for those that are barely turning to high definition quality in their home theaters. Tired of the low-light your old projector is delivering? Then, you'll be amazed by the 1700 ANSI lumens the HD20 delivers, for eye strain-free movie watching.

If brightness doesn't impress you, then you're sure to drop your jaw when you hear about the contrast ratio. You'll be able to enjoy your home theater in the middle of the day without closing the blinds, that's what a 4,000:1 contrast ratio can do. All that for a full HD experience.

"We're very excited to be at the forefront of such a significant breakthrough in HD projectors" said Jon Grodem, director of product and marketing for Optoma. "This new low price opens up a whole new audience to the high definition, large screen, home theater projection experience. Viewers will love how the HD20 displays an image more than 9 times larger than a 40" flat screen television, projecting a screen size image greater than 120 inches."

It features one Texas Instruments 1080p that provides all the connectivity you'd ever need with 2 HDMI inputs, VGA, Component and Composite video inputs. While the native resolution of the HD20 is the 1080p standard, it is also compatible with most computer formats like UXGA, WXGA, SXGA+, SXGA, XGA, SVGA, VGA resided, VESA and, of course, accepts common global video inputs and video formats up to 1080p resolution.
