Pentax really seems keen on stealing the show at this year's Photokina, since it's not showcasing just two brand-new DSLRs (the K-r and K-5 models), but also a bunch of compacts, including here the RZ10 10x zoomer.
As some of you might remember, this is not the first time we come across this model, since
PENTAX actually let out some info on this compact around IFA time, but the company has now decided to provide a lot more details on this high-zoom compact than they did before.
So, the camera comes equipped with a high-performance 10X optical zoom lens covering focal lengths from 28mm wide angle to 280mm telephoto (in the 35mm format), and, when coupled with the Intelligent Zoom function, which allows for even tighter zooming in on the subject, the zoom range can be extended to approximately 67 times to cover the focal length of a 1876mm super-telephoto lens (in the 35mm format).
Other important features worth mentioning include the dual shake reduction for effective reduction of camera shake, a 14 Megapixel sensor, a HD video function (720p recording) and an upgraded Auto Picture mode for hands-off selection of the most appropriate shooting mode.
Furthermore, the RZ10 comes equipped with a 2.7-inch color LCD monitor with approximately 230,000 dots, supports Burst Shooting of up to 40 images at a maximum speed of 9.1 images per second and packs a couple of Digital filters, including Toy Camera and Retro, to add creative visual effects.
The compact camera also offers users a choice of three image sizes (4:3, 16:9 and 1:1) to accommodate different applications, a D-Range setting to prevent whitewashed (overexposed) and black-out (underexposed) areas in an image and a Digital Panorama mode to effortlessly create a single panoramic picture from as many as three images.
While European pricing for the Pentax RZ10 has not been provided, we suspect that it won't bee too far from its US counterpart ($219.95 USD).
