I'm not sure just how many of you can still recall their early forays in the world of computing, when they used to connect two desktop computers using a specially-designed Ethernet cable, or a serial interface. Anyway, those of you who do might be very interested in the connectivity technology we'll talk about as follows, namely the
PLX USB Duet, which is designed to allow mobile computers, to instantly share any Windows-based PC’s CD/DVD optical drive, thus simplifying tasks like installing new software.
According to PLX, their technology (which, apparently, has been around since 2007) is a key feature of the newest generation of Fujitsu LIFEBOOK MH380, providing high-performance
USB 2.0 instant access to any PC with a standard USB cable. In addition, USB Duet enables easy file sharing and backup.
The LIFEBOOK MH380 is powered by the Intel Atom N475 processor and features a 10.1-inch HD back-light LED screen, a unique dedicated ergonomic Scroll Wheel and enhanced wireless networking. In addition to USB Duet, the LIFEBOOK MH380 also features a robust family of functions, including picture rotate and zoom using the multi-gesture touch pad, and comes equipped with clear visual and voice VoIP communications via an integrated webcam, digital microphone and stereo speakers.
“Fujitsu has advanced
mobile PC connectivity dramatically with the inclusion of PLX’s USB Duet in its flagship LIFEBOOK MH380,” said Gene Schaeffer, vice president worldwide sales and PLX. “We are pleased to have worked successfully with Fujitsu on this project and believe the company’s customers will enjoy the convenience and ease of use this unmatched technology delivers to a mobile-computing market that’s growing rapidly.”
