Everyone's talking about high-definition nowadays, this concept becoming a “must have” even for those people who don't fully understand what it's actually all about. However, in general, any discussion related to high-definition refers either to HDTVs, Blu-ray discs or multimedia playback machines, and less to audio.
That's not at all the case with PS Audio's latest products, though. Thus, the company has announced that it will be showcasing at CES the world’s first CD transport system capable of directly playing high resolution WAV files (HRX) recorded on both DVD and CD media. Dubbed the PerfectWave Digital Suite, PS Audio's line of equipment includes the PerfectWave Transport (PWT) and the PerfectWave DAC (PWD).
The PerfectWave Transport (PWT) is an optical disc transport system that works equally well with both CD and DVD audio mediums. The system rips all of the optical data first to a memory, using Exact Audio Copy (EAC) for the extraction, then outputs that data through a built-in Digital Lens to eliminate jitter and timing artifacts associated with the extraction process.
The second component of this system, the PerfectWave DAC (PWD), is a D to A processor that can be configured as a high resolution music server with the addition of an internal network Bridge. By doing so, users can access and play any format or resolution data up to 196kHz 24 bit through a jitter-free interface known as I2S.
Another very interesting feature provided by the system from PS Audio is the fact that both products make very good use of the company's exclusive Global Net Service, built on a Cloud Computing platform for library organization, access, and management.
No pricing details have been provided for the time being, but since this product will be fully demonstrated at CES, we might find out more info regarding this issue later on this week.
