All you PS3 wannabe hackers out there
have a reason to rejoice as a new solution called PS Jailbreak
promises to back up all your games without the need to open the
console and void the warranty in the process.
Although we do not encourage these kind
of practices, backing up your video games on a hard disk can prove
really convenient as you no longer have to wait ages for your
games to load, not to mention that every single title in your collection can
be right at your fingertips.
The chip that makes all this possible
is called the PS Jailbreak, and the best part about it is that it
comes as a
USB plug and play solution which installs in seconds,
keeping your valid warranty seal intact.
As PS Jailbreak is compatible with all
PlayStation 3 product models and supports all regions, everybody can use it to
back up their games on internal and external hard drives.
The games can then be launched from the
PS3's GUI like any regular Blu-ray game.
This USB solution also opens up your
console to homebrew applications and its firmware is updateable
by
simply connecting the PS Jailbreak to your computers USB port.
The
manufacturer says that the PS Jailbreak is compatible with online
play but they don not guarantee this feature for future titles and
recommend that you stay with the current PS3 firmware until they deem
any firmware update as safe.
A list of retailers that will have these units available is online at PSJailbreak.com, but, right now, the ability to mod your PlayStation 3 without voiding the warranty doesn't seem to come in cheap as one online seller lists this at €130.
