Panasonic has brought a pretty comprehensive lineup of new products to this year's CES and, besides all of the Bravia PDPs, LCDs,
3D solutions, camcorders, etc., it has also unveiled a couple of stereo systems designed specifically to dock Apple's iPhone and iPod portables, namely the SC-HC20, SC-HC30 and SC-HC40 models.
The devices from the HC series by Panasonic feature a dedicated iPod dock, as well as a remote control that can be used to select music stored in the iPod. Music on the iPod can also be used for the wake-up timer. More than just an iPod and CD player, the SC-HC40, HC30, and HC20 are equipped with an AM/FM tuner for listening to radio broadcasts.
The SC-HC40 offers advanced compatibility with iPod/iPhone Bluetooth functions. With the Hands Free function, a conversation on the iPhone can be conducted while docked to the SC-HC40. The listening possibility is further expanded by the HC40's ability to receive audio transmission and play wirelessly from iPod/iPhone or compatible mobile phones in one's hand (this function seems to be pretty popular with iPod docking solution manufacturers lately).
Additionally, the SC-HC40 and HC30 models come equipped with
Panasonic's proprietary advanced Bamboo Cone Speakers and a Dual Passive Radiator. The advanced Bamboo Cone Speakers feature a rigid, lightweight bamboo cone material, while the Dual Passive Radiator design cancels unwanted vibration, helping deliver an improved bass sound with minimal noise. The diaphragm of the passive radiator is weighted to achieve linear vibration.
The SC-HC40, HC30, and HC20 are quite attractive
design-wise as well, since the top two models feature a center sliding door, in a sleek glossy finish. The motorized door slide opens, allowing the user to insert a music CD or an iPod. The SC-HC20 also has a motorized door, which slides open to insert a music CD, but it has an iPod dock that slides out from the bottom of the unit.
According to Panasonic, its HC series will be available in April 2010 and that's most likely when we also find just how much would-be customers will have to cough up for these things.
