In general, when we think about four thirds sensors, the first thing that comes to mind are DSLR cameras, but it seems that Panasonic has some different opinions on the matter, since it's just announced the development of the AG-AF105, their first-even camcorder built around the type of sensor mentioned above and featuring interchangeable lenses.
The new AVCCAM from Panasonic apparently targets the professional film production industry and will allow videographers to fully benefit from the enhanced creative solutions delivered by the various supported lenses (and apparently, we're talking about a lot of them).
Panasonic's AG-AF105
camera will support 1080/60i or 1080/30p AVCHD video recording and will rely on twin SDXC or SDHC memory cards (up to 64GB per card supported).
Moreover, it will pack plenty of connectivity options (including HDMI, USB 2.0, XLR audio inputs, etc.), as well as a high-end built-in microphone, high-quality viewfinder (852 x 480 pixels resolution) and LCD panel (1920 x 480 pixels resolution).
However, carrying this thing around will prove to be a pretty difficult task, since it measures 163.4mm x 195mm x 209.4mm and weighs a hefty 1.2 kilos.
Of course, given the fact that we're talking about a high-end, extremely innovative camera, it should come as no surprise that the device from Panasonic will be extremely expensive, as it will apparently go on sale in December for around 837,900 Japanese Yen (about $9,960), which is way too expensive for most consumers.
As you will certainly remember, this is not the first-ever camcorder to support interchangeable lenses, since
Sony announced earlier this year its NEX-VG10 camcorder, offering a similar functionality.
For this reason, we suspect that other manufacturers will come up with such products as well in the near future, thus practically completely changing the way in which we imagined the evolution of camcorders and digital cameras.
