Although we live in a world where 2.5 inch is the de facto standard for solid state disks, not too many cases come with bays this size, so Patriot has come up with a solution for this problem in the form of the Convoy 425S and Convoy 425XL, 5.25” bay enclosures for 2.5” drives.

Making their way into the Patriot Convoy 4x4 series, these new rugged aluminum enclosures feature an industrial design together with two 40mm fans for superior cooling and heat dissipation, the four available drive trays also coming with hot-swap support.

Designed with storage density and performance in mind, the enclosures can be used to build impressive SSD RAID setups, Patriot showcasing such a technology during Computex when it build a 56 Patriot Inferno 100GB SSDs RAID 0 configuration that delivered 240,000 IOPS.

Although I doubt anybody would actually do the same, the possibility is there since Patriot actually used Convoy 425XL enclosures for that demonstration.

This was possible since the XL model, compared to the Convoy 425S, comes with RAID 0,1,3,5,10 and JBOD support right out off the box.

Price wise, the Convoy 425S and Convoy 425XL are available right now in retail for $71 and $128, respectively.
