While I'm sure most people that have some form of physical disability or are simply old won't care a lot about how much they've traveled or how many calories they've burned, things are quite different for those younger users going mountain trekking or for long trips in the wild. So, given the fact that a walking stick is actually recommended when going in such an adventure, Hammacher Schlemmer is offering the Pedomostick, a device that will be able to deliver a lot more than just support for the person using it.
Hence, the stick automatically counts each step the user takes, while a
pedometer inside the walking stick tallies the footsteps, calculates calories burned, measures distance traveled, and tracks time spent walking. All of these pieces of information can then be very easily displayed on an LCD display built into the handle.
However, that's not the single surprise this thing has in store. Hence, it also sports an LED flashlight mounted to the shaft, which is able to illuminate one's path with a steady beam of light or flash to warn cars or bicyclists of the user's presence. Furthermore, according to Hammacher Schlemmer, the durable aluminum shaft and rubber base provide stability on
all terrain, and the padded ergonomic handle affords a confident grip.
The size of the walking stick can be adjusted from 37 to 52 inches, providing eight different heights for optimal comfort. The device includes a replaceable battery and an additional rubber base, has a 2-inch diameter and weighs around 1 pound (453 grams).
Pricing of the Pedomostick from Hammacher Schlemmer is set at around 100 US dollars, which is not at all a small one, but I guess that people who spend a lot of time trekking and want to quantify their performance
might ultimately go for it.
