As some of you might remember from our previous article on this subject, Philips announced a while back the development of a very impressive LCD TV targeting especially home-cinema systems, dubbed “
Cinema 21:9,” which is in fact quite a self-explanatory name, given the features this thing can provide. However, back when we first came across this story, the company had not provided any significant pricing or availability information, but things have changed since then, and we've got both of these two very important pieces of information for you.
Hence, as the guys over at
TrustedReviews inform us, it seems that this new display from Philips is about to arrive at some point over the course of June. And if you think that this is simply too far away into the future, then think again, since you'll really have to start saving up until then. That's because this behemoth of an LCD comes at a pretty high price point, namely somewhere around 4,000 Euro, which is a pretty hefty sum, especially these days.
Now, if you don't know exactly what the Cinema 21:9 display is all about, then let us quickly remind you. So, featuring an aspect ratio of 21:9, as well as a 56-inch diagonal size, the Cinema 21:9 from Philips is just about the world’s first cinema-proportioned LCD TV. Furthermore, as it incorporates Philips’ famous Ambilight technology, it's sure to create quite an impressive cinematographic experience.
Despite all the advanced features it provides, the Cinema 21:9 remains a premium product. Hence, it's very difficult to estimate just how many people will come rushing in to purchase such a product, given the absolutely huge price point (huge for these crisis-plagued times, that is). However, this device might still have some customers, especially among those
rich enough to not be so seriously affected by the economic downturn.
