If you have ever wondered why there are certain timepieces called grand complication watches, then the latest addition to Pierre DeRoche's portfolio, the TNT Retro Royal is the best answer you can get. Although it may seem a bit weird at first glance, you might probably not realize what the deal is with this timepiece from the very beginning. But it will soon become clear that Pierre DeRoche has created the first movement able to house six retrograde seconds mechanisms.
While this complication has been introduced to provide an element of fun, it also reveals a totally original approach: all the retrograde hands in this model are driven by gears rather than cams and, thanks to a strip-spring that has replaced the classical balance-spring system, return to their initial positions after “passing on the baton” to the next retrograde hand. This innovation facilitates adjustment and enhances shock resistance.
Each hand measures intervals of time equal to 10 seconds and them goes back to its initial position. Not to be confused by such a big number of second hands, each of six scales has an aperture where during the operation of the hand black color is replaced by red. The indication of hours, minutes and date are traditional. The exclusive movement Dubois Depraz caliber 15102 with self-winding is based on 58 jewels and boasts a 22Kgold engraved rotor.
The new TNT Royal Retro watch is housed by a 47.5 mm case made of titanium coated with black PVD. The case is equipped with a steel bezel and lugs and 18K rose gold crown. The watch goes together with a crocodile leather strap with 18K rose gold safety folding clasp.
The TNT Royal Retro watch comes in a limited edition of only 21 pieces with gold and 201 pieces with steel.
