Most of the times, designers are inspired by the natural environment surrounding them, taking into account the fact that nature always rebirths in spectacular shapes, sizes and colors. Adding a bit of tech to the form only brings out formidable gadgets that make our life easier. For example, if it weren’t for dragonflies, we wouldn’t have helicopters now, would we?
Anton Webb is one of the designers for whom nature is a veritable muse, developing his work on basic natural forms and the latest addition to the portfolio is a household phone that catches your eye immediately. The Non Literal Phone follows this recipe, being inspired by the Hosta plant, a foliage plant that flaunts a wide range of solid colors.
This conceptual home phone aims to bring a little bit of artistic beauty to your dreary home. Using it will enable you to experience the feeling of a merged interface and practical design, and it seems to operate on some sort of Click Wheel-like technology when it comes to dialing your number.
The Non Literal Phone looks more like a sculpture than a communication device that apart from its functional usage will add to the decor of modern apartments. It's a very interesting concept indeed, with a highly attractive form factor, but I wouldn't know what to say about its practicality. After all, you don't need a phone only because it looks pretty, you need to be able to use it.
Anyway, this is not the issue right now, considering the fact that the Non Literal Phone is still a concept and seems to be far from entering production anytime soon. Until (If) that happens, be sure that many other phone concepts will try to make it look dull and unpretentious.
