Polk is a name that should immediately resonate as that company building home audio, and considering that gardens are also part of people's homes, said manufacturer has just introduced the Polk Atrium Garden Speakers. What you see to the left is the picture of two Atrium satellite speakers and what appears to be a flower pot, which
is actually the system's subwoofer.
I am really fond of this type of implementation that makes products blend into the environment. Technically speaking, the Atrium Garden Speakers are waterproof, and sport a construction that will withstand even a bump from your lawnmower, just in case this happens. The satellite speakers can be mounted on a deck or wall, hung from the ceiling with the supplied pendant, and even stuck into the ground, with the provided security stake. All of the installation options allow customers to angle the speakers to suit their exact listening position.
Nevertheless, the speakers feature long throw drivers, so the crispness and detail in music won't fade away the further you are from them. Before continuing with the technical specs, mind that all of these are passive speakers, so you will need your own amplification. The satellites are capable of delivering a frequency range between 100 and 22,000Hz, which is quite a bump over your average computer sound system, and 2,000Hz
more responsive than Bang & Olufsen loud speakers.
The subwoofer comes to complement the frequency response, ranging between 40 and 200Hz, provided by a 10-inch dual-coil driver. Available now, customers can purchase these on Amazon, for a mere price of $600. These might look good, and maybe even sound excellent, but considering the application, I would hesitate paying that amount for passive speakers, just because a suitable amplifier will add to the total cost at least half that much.
