Although they're still rather far from the popularity of wired solutions, wireless speakers are beginning to gain more and more adepts, especially among those people who are annoyed by all those wires in their homes and they're looking for a much simpler, and at the same time, much more visually attractive solution. For this reason, the Polk Audio company has just introduced the PSWi225 wireless subwoofer, a device that can be easily connected to an already existing wireless speaker system, or even accompany the speaker units built right in the user's HDTV.
I believe that Mark Suskind, Polk Audio’s Vice President of Product Line Management, says it best when talking about the actual reason why the company has launched the PSWi225, “Polk’s wireless subwoofer opens up dramatic new possibilities for music and movie playback systems by allowing placement anywhere in the room where there’s an AC outlet. Now it’s possible to get the best bass performance from a speaker system without the additional installation and clutter of expensive audio cables.”
The wireless subwoofer from Polk Audio uses the 2.4 GHz RF spectrum in order to transmit audio. It offers a 40-180 Hz response and pairing it with the corresponding audio system is a very easy process, which takes only a couple of minutes.
Now, let's talk a little bit about the enclosure. Hence, the PSWi225 measures 12 x 13 x 12 inches and incorporates a front-firing, rugged Long-throw Dynamic Balance co-polymer driver with Butyl Rubber surround for a very good level of performance and reliability. Moreover, the subwoofer features a stiff internal bracing system, while the non-resonant heavy-duty MDF construction delivers good quality bass. Plus, the device sports an active crossover system that lets the user tailor the response to any sound system.
According to the company, the first customers will be able to get their hands on the Polk PSWi2255 at some point in March 2009, and will have to cough up around 400 US dollars for it.
