Traditionally, almost every computer case out there has at least two bays designed to host floppy disk drives. And while this type of storage media is all but extinct nowadays, those bays are now finding new uses, housing all sorts of accessories for the PC. One of the most interesting devices of this type has just been launched by GeekStuff4U, namely the Portable Dual Driver Modules, a little accessory that will allow users to extend their storage space in a very interesting manner.

Thus, this accessory for the PC system is, in fact, similar to the HDD used in 5.25-inch bays. However, instead of using 3.5-inch HDDs, this particular unit works with slimmer, 2.5-inch hard disk drives. Moreover, instead of providing enough space for just 1 unit, the Portable Dual Driver Modules allow users to connect two such drives to their systems.

It's also interesting to note that this unit connects to the user's mainboard via a SATA interface, which means that they support pretty much any RAID module. Another important fact worth mentioning about the Portable Dual Drive Modules is that they can also be used as readers for HDDs or other storage media – by the latter, we refer to SSDs, which share the same form factor (2.5 inches) and interface, while providing higher access speeds and an enhanced level of security due to the fact that they don't feature any moving parts to get damaged during transport.

This very interesting accessory sells for around 90 US dollars, which is not exactly a very impressive sum, given just how useful it could prove to be (especially if you're constantly working with 2.5-inch HDDs or SSDs). Besides the unit itself, the sales package will also provide you with two SATA cables, plus a very useful user's manual.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
