Size is more important today than it was at any time in the past. Except that, this time, it's the little guy that surpasses its bigger counterpart. I remember when I was in high school how the teacher would use a pretty imposing device to project images on a large white screen or on the blackboard. And we would be amazed. Today, I am writing about a new pico projector from Beambox. And I am not amazed.
The Evolution R-1 pico projector is the latest such device from Beambox. Capable of projecting a 100-inch image at up to 640 x 680 resolution, it has a memory of 1GB that can be upgraded to a lot more via the microSD card slot. With its 30 lumens brightness, the R-1 is twice as bright as some of its rivals.
It has a mini-USB slot, AV-in and 3.5mm headphone jack, an onboard 1W speaker and a contrast ratio of 200:1. Its rechargeable battery offers wire-free operating for as much as 90 minutes. Priced at 360 USD, this device looks like a pretty good option for those who want to project their ideas onto others. It can project to a distance of up to 1.5 meters and its just 59 x 28 x 108 in size.
What I really liked about this pico projector is the fact that it supports formats such as MP3, MP4, MP5, AVI/MPEG/3G or RMVB, as well as ASF/RM/FLV or WMV. Basically, there aren't many formats that you can't project using the Evolution R-1. If looks are all you care about, you will be happy to know that the guys at Beambox have gladly “borrowed” Apple's iPod design, so it is slick and classy, as well as easy to work with and with good performance.
