Here's an issue with projectors installed at home that was addressed by Projectiondesign in a way that nobody thought about - namely the issue of the noise from the fans that cool the lamp and the company has done what no other did, actually physically split the lamp from
the projector's optical assembly and divided the projector into two detached parts, and invented the FR12 Remote Light Source Projector.
Well, not completely detached, but with a cable between, which is a 30-meter Liquid Light Guide (LLG) lead that transmits the light from the rack-mounted enclosure, which hides the lamp and fans to the optics. That makes the head of the projector completely quiet, and given the 30-meter cable, you can hide the rack in another room, or at least far enough not to be disturbed by the fans when you want to have a decent volume on your home cinema.
Also, the head will be smaller, thus providing more installation options, as well as keeping a virtually maintenance-free architecture. The first thing that one can relate to from this is the fact that maintenance also gets easier, as everything is easy accessible in the rack mount, and so does the lamp replacement. Projectiondesign claims the FR12 RLS projector will definitely find a place in 24/7 control rooms, but
given the versatility and commodity of this I bet it will meet the needs of many home installers, and become a solution for others.
What I can't help but wonder is about the endurance of the Liquid Light Guide cable, because when I think of home installation, stepping on it comes first to my mind, as we know not everyone is keen on cable management, or at least is too lazy to do that. I know I still am. No word on the pricing for the FR12 RLS, but we know that Projectiondesign will debut this at ISE 2010, when the company will probably announce availability too.
