Projection technology has recorded some pretty impressive leaps ahead over the past couple of years, with the latest developments promising to bring projection capabilities even to more common devices, such as mobile phones and portable media players. And now, it seems that the first products providing such enhanced functionality will be arriving on the market, and where else than in the “gadget fairy-tale land” of China?
So, as
Cloned in China reports (although not accurately, because it has gotten the name of the device wrong), a company called Yinlips and based in Shenzen (where else?) is actively working on developing a portable MP4 player that will come equipped with a
projector module, thus allowing users to enjoy large-size videos pretty much wherever they might be.
The future
PMP, which, by the way, is presumably going to be called “Mirage,” may support the RMVB format, as well as most of the other commonly-encountered multimedia file formats out there. Furthermore, besides the projector module (which might be able to generate images featuring a maximum diagonal size of up to 80 inches or 2 meters), the PMP will also be equipped with a 3.5-inch display, mostly for control purposes.
Additionally, as Yinlips’ own
blog post reads, it would seem that this product will also support 64-bit games, at the same time featuring a special connector that can be used for hooking up a portable DVD player to the projector. Plus, this
thing is extremely easy to carry around, since its case is apparently just around 2-cm thick.
For the time being, no pricing and/or availability information has been provided, but we hope that we'll find out more in the future, when this thing moves from vaporware status to that of a real, tangible gadget.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
