Here comes another computer system from Onkyo that wants to draw your attention to the netbook segment. Sporting a very familiar 10.1-inch form factor and the Intel Atom platform that you have probably grown accustomed to, the Sotec DC204A3 will provide you with some surprises in terms of technical specifications. As it turns out, this netbook has ditched the old connectivity options and gone for a lighter, more compact design.
We can't say that the latest Sotec netbook from Onkyo manages to impress above most similar systems on the market, but it sure raises an eyebrow. In its quest to provide users with a lighter, more compact netbook system, Onkyo has decided that you can do without the familiar D-Sub and Ethernet connectors, which would have usually allowed you to connect the machine to a secondary display or take advantage of the speed of an Ethernet connection. Fortunately, there's a bundled USB dongle that takes care of this problem. However, you will have to remember to carry it around with you each time you pack the netbook.
Aside from that, the Sotec netbook has pretty much what you'd expect from an Atom-powered 10-inch ultraportable computer system, including the successful Intel Atom N270 processors and 945GSE Express chipset. There's also 1GB of RAM, integrated Wi-Fi, webcam and a 32GB SSD for increased performance.
Now, if for some reason you have grown attached to this netbook, you should take into account that it will be available in Japan for 49,800 Yen, which is about €380. Unfortunately, we have no details of an upcoming release in the US or Europe, but we have a feeling that you won't miss it that much, considering the high number of models available on the market.
