Some time ago, we showed you
a gadget that could harness the Wi-Fi signals floating invisibly in the air around us, for making all sorts of sounds that some might even consider music. Those Wi-Fi signals have been put to an even better use by RCA, namely energy production. I know how it sounds, but it is possible for energy to be drawn from wireless waves, according to RCA.
Even more, these new devices are portable, which might translate into a continuous
source of power for all your portable gadgets. Now, you do not have any choice but to buy one of those geeky T-shirts showing you the Wi-Fi signal levels, that is if you wish to power up your smartphone in less time.
The fresh type of devices I am talking about here are the RCA AirPower chargers capable of somehow “regurgitating the 2.4 Ghz signal and converting it” (according to
Dvice). Converting it into energy, of course.
The duration for the AirPower to be fully charged is of six hours of exposure to Wi-Fi, without it doing anything. Or perhaps it will affect the Wi-Fi signal's power, RCA doesn't say. Anyway, you forget it in a hotspot for a while and when you retrieve it, the AirPower will be charged, it's as simple as that. Afterwards, this latest invention from RCA is capable of charging any gadget, via USB, at the same time it would charge from a wall socket.
Priceless invention for now, the AirPower Wi-Fi chargers from RCA will be available by the time the holidays start. Until then, we can only imagine what it would be like when all gadgets integrate this
technology instead of the regular batteries, so that they can charge all by themselves in this easier and more comfortable way.
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is
