Although the large majority of computer input devices (mice and keyboards) that arrive on the market nowadays are wireless, there's also a very important exception, namely gaming-dedicated peripherals. For reasons related to response speeds, mice used for PC gaming are traditionally wired ones, but it looks like one of the world's most important manufacturers of such devices, Razer, is about to break these “old habits,” since it has just announced at CES a wireless gaming mouse, the Razer Mamba.
Thus, according to Razer, the Mamba is a lag free gaming mouse, which employs 2.4GHz gaming grade wireless technology in order to attain very low polling rates, of just 1ms, for virtually instant transfer of the peripheral's motion onto the screen. The Razer Mamba delivers a very high level of precision, since it's built around a 5600DPI Razer Precision 3.5G Laser sensor and supports tracking speeds of up to 200 inches per second/ 50g acceleration.

Quite obviously, the most important innovation brought about by the new Razer Mamba to the world of gaming peripherals is the lack of wires. However, since it's quite a well-known fact that most high-end gaming mice (or mouses) are wired ones, so hardcore and pro-gamers might be a little deterred by a wireless peripheral, Razer has also included a “wired” option in the form of a detachable, seven-foot, lightweight, braided cord. This way, if gamers are not satisfied with the mouse's wireless performance, they can always switch back to the more classic approach.
The Razer Mamba also delivers some of the most important features found in Razer's other models, such as the Razer Synapse On-board Memory (for saving the gamer's profiles), ultra-large, non-slip Hyperesponse buttons and zero-acoustic Ultraslick Teflon feet. Moreover, it comes equipped with DPI stage and battery life indicators, the latter having quite a hard job ahead of it, since the Mamba can go for up to 72 hours of normal gaming usage (or 14 hours of continuous gaming).
Razer's Mamba wireless gaming mouse will be available worldwide starting with Q1 2009 and will sell for an estimate 130 US dollars (or the equivalent in Euros in Europe).
