Since technology has advanced so much lately, it's not an unusual fact to have a high-tech robot protecting your home from burglars and other intruders, instead of a sophisticated alarm that only manages to alert you, your neighbors and the cops, without actually affecting the burglars themselves. People have thought about this type of situations and they decided that it was time they developed some device that actually catches the intruders so that they can receive their punishment.

The prototype T-34 robotic security guard can sense an intruder and launch a net to capture them. It trundles along on four small wheels and it is loaded with sensors that can detect anything untoward in an office building. Its name comes from that of a Soviet medium tank produced from 1940 to 1958. Despite the military connotation to this robot, it acts more like a comic books' hero, such as Spiderman.

Created by robot developer Tmsuk and security firm Alacom, the surveillance robot reacts to body heat and sound. However, there is not a single mention anywhere about how the little toy car-like robot differentiates between intruders and the inhabitants of the house or the people working in the office building it's placed in.

The zippy machine moves up to 6mph under the command of a person who sees real-time images of where the robot is on the screen of their mobile. It can then be instructed to spray a 'spider web' net that entangles the intruder, which means that it can also be used for pranks, if you think about it.

The T-34 is an upgraded version of Tmsuk's earlier security robot, the T7S, which came in the shape of a Triceratops dinosaur and had cameras in its eyes. The new security android packs a stronger punch than its predecessor and can fire a net designed to entangle robbers until human reinforcements arrive.

Security sensors often set off false alarms, but examining the location with the robot will lead to more efficient operations, according to its manufacturers. The T-34 is only a prototype for the moment, but it might become reality not too long from now, more specifically, in about two years, as its manufacturers believe. This robot will apparently be priced around 9,000 US dollars.
