Even though I tend to use one gadget for my mobile needs (namely my mobile phone), I kind of understand all the excitement behind portable media players (or PMP for short). Devices that are specifically meant for one purpose are usually better at doing it than something more general like a mobile phone. No matter how smart the phone is, it cannot compete with a device that is meant to serve just one purpose.
Coming from
Sony Insider is a leaked photo of what seems to be a new Sony S-Series Walkman. And by the looks of it, it promises a lot. Very similar in resemblance to the Zune HD as well. Nice polished case, easy-to-use controls (the style and layout of the controls remind me of the iPod) and what seem to be like speakers on the front end of the gadget make the “what could be the successor” of the S-Series definitely a good-looking piece of technology.
Just think about it: you could use the music player without your headphones in places such as the beach or why not... the subway in order to annoy everyone around you. I mean everyone's doing it anyway, why not join the fun, right?
By the way, the screen also appears to be bigger than on the S-Series Walkman, so good for Sony on that part as well. All in all, if
the Japanese company manages to give it increased battery life (though that's not actually an issue with its products), a microSD card slot and a good price tag, I think we might have a winner.
Well, until the
Zune HD shows up in all its NVIDIA Tegra awesomeness and blows everyone out of the water.
